I returned home to Massachusetts a few days ago, after having wrapped up an extraordinary 5-day GLOW mastermind retreat in Tulum, Mexico.

Being rocked to sleep and awakened each morning by the sounds of the waves in the Caribbean Sea was something I’ll never forget (neither will my clients).

Our resort was literally steps to the beach. We were essentially barefoot the whole time with sand between our toes!


It’s hard to describe exactly what we experienced here, but I’ll try because I want you to lead transformational + premium experiences for your people too …

There is a magic in Tulum, a pulse, a beat that lives inside your soul.

Forever grateful to the land, the people, the animals (sea turtles are laying their eggs now!), and my clients for making this dream real.

Walking the path of a spiritual entrepreneur is a wild, mystical adventure filled with twists and turns.

What I know to be true: you never walk alone.

As the leader, it’s my job to hold sacred space for my clients to make discoveries, make moves and shed layers they’ve outgrown. It’s my job to listen, guide and help them be all they were designed to be … in their work and in all other areas.

One of my superpowers is leading transformational (I don’t use this word lightly) retreats. No one does it like I do. No one. Of this I’m sure.

Designing the flow of my retreats is a sacred act. Retreats are meant to be spacious and expansive and deep.

There is power in this type of immersion. True transformation occurs when the leader is in alignment with the process and with her people.

I’ve been designing and selling premium programs for 8 years now.

The highest priced program I’ve sold (so far!) is $15,000. The most cash I’ve received in one month from my business is close to $40,000 (note: cash is different than sales generated/contracts booked). I’ve launched programs that have generated sales of 6-figures during the launch.

On the flip side, I’ve also sold $97 courses. Offered events and retreats for a few hundred dollars. (It’s an entirely different model to sell low-end offers.)

Having been around the block and back again, I now am celebrating the beauty of what I call GOING HIGH >> high-vibe, high-touch, high-end.

While I love being able to help people with my free or low-end offers, the people I can do the deepest work with are those who invest in my premium programs. I’ve seen it time and time again >> when you invest, you’re invested.

My best students and clients are those who invest at the highest levels. Because they are truly on the line for their growth and results.

It’s very easy to pay $297 for a course and never do anything with the material. You haven’t wasted THAT much money. But imagine what happens when you spend $2,997 or $29,997. (And imagine what happens when your clients invest at that level too.)

Do you think you’re going to not show up for the work that’s required to get a return on that investment? (Do you think your clients won’t show up or do the work?)

And that’s the whole point.

The investment in working with a coach is the investment in your growth. In your evolution. In you achieving your gutsy goals.

Stand Up for What You Believe In

So something I’m really excited about in 2017 is writing more. Straight up writing.

I got away from my true, true love a bit last year and my soul suffered. My business grew, but I’m not just in this for the money.

I’m in this for the joy it brings me.

Because when I feel joy, I trust that my joy is making its way around the world and touching you in your corner of the world too.

So I’ve redesigned the way I’m communicating with you and serving you … and making writing – real, raw … not just “promo” copy, but rather, straight-up truth talk – a regular part of my marketing and connection plan.


And when things are wild and crazy, I am even MORE grateful to be a writer.

Ya’ll, the world feels like it’s turning upside down right now. Is it just me or do you feel it too?

It’s like I’m on those crazy roller coaster where you hang upside down for what seems like forever while your stomach churns. Then you free fall …

Look, I know I may lose fans and customers as a result of me speaking about politics and world affairs, but so be it. I’ve lived with that fear in the past and “played it safe” with my messaging because I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.

“Being the good girl” is still something I grapple with.

Of course I don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings by speaking up, but I also must be able to look at myself in the mirror when it’s all said and done and use my platform for good.

As leaders, we have a responsibility to use our voice to take a stand and make true change in the world.

One of the hallmarks I stand behind is to TAKE A STRONG POSITION.

Don’t be wishy washy.

What does this mean?

And why does this matter so much right now?


Even if this means you will lose some business (trust me, you’ll get better opportunities when you’re true to yourself!).

I get why you may feel scared to take a position when we’re trying so hard to not offend anyone.

Women have been conditioned for generations to not step on any toes less we get labeled “bitchy,” “rude,” “bossy,” “opinionated” or “political.”


I’ve seen many women online say that it’s unacceptable to talk about politics, religion or money in public.

Um … what’s that all about?

Your lack of conviction to take a position about what you really feel on social media, in your blog posts, during meetings or conversations means that you don’t add much to the conversation. Your contributions (or lack thereof) are easily forgotten.

While you may be easy on the eyes, you were meant to be so much more than that.

Your unwillingness to stand up for what you believe means you get lost in a sea of sameness.

This also happens when you don’t specifically identify WHO YOU WORK WITH and WHAT SPECIFIC PROBLEM YOU SOLVE.

Your desire to help “everyone” with “everything” means your marketing falls in the giant abyss of nothingness.

You’re casting your net way too wide.

You’re, essentially, wasting your time … and your potential.

Leaking energy.

Trying to please everyone and killing yourself and your business in the process.


You must take a position.

Have a point of view.

Defend that point of view and yet listen to other points of view without a need to prove that you’re “right” and they are “wrong.”

Aim to understand a little bit more today than you did yesterday.

And yet still stand strong for what you believe.

Keep your eyes open.

Point out injustices.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Know that it’s okay to “lose” people along the way.

You can’t help everyone. You can’t change everyone’s minds (especially on the internet!).

You won’t be liked by everyone.

Nor should you try.

You must be clear on who you help and why.

For me, I help spiritually-connected coaches, healers and creatives to grow their businesses without burning out.

We do this through getting crystal clear on your SOUL’S VISION and translating this into a series of aligned actions and intelligent packages and offers that attract your dream clients.

99% of my clients are women.

And we also help a small yet mighty crew of men who are open to being around a bunch of strong, smart, outspoken women.

Keeping us separate doesn’t seem to make much sense anymore. The separateness is causing a lot of trouble in the world now. And what we don’t need more of is SEPARATE.

What Do You Believe?

In the noisy world we live in, it’s easy to lose connection with your own truth. We start picking up on OPO (Other People’s Opinions) and don’t know how WE truly feel about an issue.

Beware of this.

You always, always, always want to be clear on what YOU believe … even if what you believe is different than important people in your life … or the “majority.”

As for me, I believe that the vast majority of the people in the world are good.

I believe in humanity.

I believe in family.

I believe we are all God’s children.

I believe that love is love is love.

I believe in yoga, meditation, angels, spirit guides, crystals, essential oils, candles, palo santo and sage.


I believe in America.

I believe in the world.

I believe in doing unto others as you’d have them do unto you.

I believe in healing your wounds and not putting your “stuff” on someone else to deal with.

I believe that when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

I believe that I can learn a lot about leadership by watching what many in public positions of power do … and then doing the opposite.

I believe we are alive to use our voices and gifts to affect positive change in the world (starting with ourselves).

I believe that empowering my tribe to harness their spiritual gifts to achieve financial freedom is the best gift I can offer the world.

I believe in investing in what you value (contributions/investments lately include quality journalism with the New York Times; civil liberties with the American Civil Liberties Union; and global entrepreneurship and microloans with Kiva).

I believe that history has a way of repeating itself if you aren’t careful. (My Jewish mother-in-law was forced to flee Nazi Germany as a young child … she has taught me so much about staying vigilant and using your voice as she writes Letters to the Editor to the New York Times often. She’s been published more than 20 times.)

I believe that power can be misused when in the hands of mentally unfit people.

I believe in deeply and completely loving and accepting myself.

I believe in you.

I believe this isn’t “business as usual.” This is anything but usual. We must address the elephant in the room … and get to the root.

I believe that no matter what horrible things are happening in the world, there are always helpers making things better.

I believe in your right to disagree with me, agree with me or not care about what I have to say.

I believe that we can have different beliefs and still be kind to each other … and still learn from each other.

I believe in the leaders in my industry who speak out about their beliefs and inspire me to be courageous enough to speak out about mine.

Where do we go from here?

Honestly I’m not sure.

It feels like uncharted territory yet it also feels like we’ve navigated super choppy waters together before.

For many of you, it’s calling your lawmakers.








Unfriending. Unfollowing. Unsubscribing.

Doubling down.

Hugging your family extra tight.


Not worrying at all.


Do what feels right.

Do right by your conscious. And your moral compass.

Don’t let anyone silence you.


Live awake. Live with your eyes wide open.

Stand UP for what you believe in … in all areas of your life, business and the world. And keep fighting the good fight.

From Burned Out to Filled Up

It’s my final morning in Costa Rica.

I’m sitting outside on my balcony in my comfy plush robe listening to the birds and roosters do their thing (I’m going to miss them!).

The view in the distance is stunning.

I came here to hold space for my mastermind clients to transform and rise higher in their work.


What I didn’t realize when I got here is that I came here to heal and get clarity about the next steps on my journey.

Last year was the most financially successful year in my business. I’m proud of that. We tested a lot of things to see what works and what doesn’t.

More than $40,000 worth of Facebook ads, oodles of Facebook livestreams, 5 free Challenges, 4 live events, VIP Days, webinars, and close to 100 podcast episodes.

A LOT of creation and growth.

A LOT of time invested.

A LOT of people helped.

And in the last quarter of the year: BURNOUT.

Burnout from the chase.

Burnout from shaky boundaries.

Burnout from working through a major parenting challenge with my oldest son Sean while simultaneously leading a very complex launch of Get Gutsy Coach Training School.

As we ended the year, I simply knew that I could NOT continue doing business and life in that same way for 2017.

No effing way.

My body was starting to feel weak.

I was angry and tired.

This weeklong retreat in Costa Rica could not have come at a better time, not just for me, but for my clients.

Oh, the layers that were shed. The tears. The epiphanies. The healing.


I led sacred circle, journeywork, meditation. Used essential oils, sage, palo santo and fire. Built altars. Called in angels, spirit guides and healers.


Gave valuable feedback as each client went to the front of the room (usually barefoot) to deliver their talk that will help them attract more juicy clients.

Coached my clients to pivot. And surrender. And attract more of what they want while saying NO to what they’ve outgrown.

My people are all going home with a plan to bring in sacred sales, confidence that it can be easy and fun … and a deep connection to their soul.

As for me, I’m going home healed. Lighter. And focused on who I REALLY am.

As my client Christine Dyan described me, I’m a “business coach and spiritual guide all in one.”

It’s so easy to follow the crowd. Listen to the noise. Forget your true essence and what you LOVE to do and are fucking great at.

When you are growing a business, you feel like there are a million things to do to be successful.

When you strip all the noise away, typically what you need to focus on is this >> understanding your ideal client and selling them what they want AND what is in alignment with your greatest gift.

In one word: SALES.

Yes, there are important strategies and tactics that support selling, but sales is what you need to be looking at.

I don’t want you to get overwhelmed by all of the options out there – list-building, podcasts, telesummits, videos, blogging, retreats, social media, livestreams, live events, masterminds, challenges, ads.

OMG – head spins, right?

Less is more here. It’s the way of the essentialist.

This retreat in Costa Rica started out as a divine download in a Kundalini yoga class last summer. I heard the message loud and clear, “Jenny, it’s time to lead a retreat in Costa Rica.”


I hope my story is living proof that when you work with Spirit in your business, you will live a life beyond your wildest dreams.

Honestly, there is no other way. This is the way.

Many thanks to the angels + spirit guides who assisted in the transformative journey this week.

Our altar is an ode to the spiritual path that forms the foundation of my work.


A cycle has ended for me … and fresh beginnings call me forward.

I don’t know exactly where 2017 will take me (that’s the fun of it!), but I do know I walk in faith.

And I am so excited to deeply support lightworker leaders in experiencing sacred success without the stupid burnout that is SO unnecessary and so rampant in this industry.

Stop trying to slay a larger to-do list and instead say NO to anything that steals your joy. Say NO to the noise + the compare + despair trap. Say NO to the race to nowhere.

Leave space for the OMG YES that will take you where your soul yearns to go.

The Making of a Coach [Part 6]: Experiments, Simplicity, Awards + Curveballs


** This is the final installment in a multi-part series on how I’ve built my coaching business. Enjoy!

2016 – my 9th year in business as a coach – has been, in a word: interesting.

I write this post at the end of a super, super intense few months.

The last quarter of 2016 was one of the most challenging I’ve ever faced.

I wanted to create something really extraordinary to wrap up this series and capture this year, but I’m at a place of surrender instead.

I thought I’d pull together all these fancy graphics and really sketch out the flow of this post before I began, but instead my inner voice is saying, “fuck it Jenny … just write.”

I’m listening to that wise counsel.

My tank has been teetering on close to empty for too long now.

So … instead of aiming for “epic,” I’m aiming for “real.”

Where shall we begin?

I suppose I’ll touch on some key themes and lessons that came up for me this year … then I’ll tell you more about the challenges and gifts of my most recent months.

Run the experiment … everything is a test

Okay, so I got schooled in this concept last year when I read “The Surrender” Experiment” by Michael A Singer. OMG. So good. That should be required reading for humans.

This year I truly started embracing this “testing” concept in business where I ran A LOT of tests under the guidance of my coach Jennifer Kem who I hired earlier this year.


I tested free challenges on Facebook (I ran 5 this year!), more than $40,000 in Facebook ads, price points for programs, different types of launches, and podcast publishing frequency.

I tested how best to offer up my awesome Tribe Building Bootcamp course, which is a perfect entry-point into my business as it gives customers a simple framework to follow to grow their tribe online.

Let me tell you, I have A LOT of data. A LOT.

Some of my tests were huge successes. Happy dance! Some were bombs. Painful bombs.

And I’m grateful for the lessons … because I’ll build on what works, and sidestep what doesn’t for ME in 2017.

And my clients and students get to learn from a coach and teacher who speaks from experience and not just theory. Yes, I’m in the trenches … just like you.

Don’t be afraid to fail. Be afraid not to try.

Honor your soul during a launch (what works for “them” may not work for you)

I launched A LOT of programs this year. A lot.

Frankly, I’ve been launching programs for several years so I’m not a newbie here. I have my own style of launching for sure. It’s very organic, simple and intuitive.

In an effort to grow the business this year and take some of the load off of my so I could operate in my Zone of Genius, we grew the team (my people are amazing, smart and committed) and executed some pretty complex launches.


I wanted to see what that whole deal felt like. I kind of thought to be a big “player” you needed to have a million movable parts in a project.

What I’ve learned, I don’t have the interest or bandwidth right now to be a part of very complex launches and projects.

My mantra: KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I’m looking for the best results with least amount of effort.

And I got away from that a bit this year.

No regrets, simply powerful lessons learned about how I want to chart the course next year.

Leave the complex launches for the marketing ninjas who delight in the nitty gritty details. I’m more of a big picture gal. Less is more to me.

Knowing your numbers is mission-critical

Big shout-out to my financial strategist Carol LeBlanc for helping me LOVE + KNOW my business numbers in 2016.

Honestly knowing my numbers was something I RESISTED in the past.

“I don’t like numbers,” I would say. “They’re not my thing.”

As a creative, I wanted to immerse myself in more artistic pursuits.

But alas, the numbers must be cared for in a business … or else, you’ll go out of business.

While numbers don’t tell the WHOLE story, they don’t lie either.

So grateful I hired Carol a year ago (after she wrapped up her time in my mastermind) to help take my business to another level.

We have had a GREAT year.

Profits are up 80% compared to last year … and I feel like I have a trusted advisor in the financial piece of this work.

Know this >> what you focus on, grows.

Next year, I’m bringing an every stronger focus on expenses and cutting back what isn’t essential to our growth. Because it’s super easy to spend more when you make more. And this can get dicey.

I was willing to spend this year to run all the tests I wanted to run … but now that I have some solid data, I can make smarter decisions next year.

Fun fact: I went through and cut services that we don’t need in 2017 and have already saved the business $4,800!

Where can you cut?

And what do you need to invest in to trigger growth?

Spiritual growth = business growth


For sure. The deeper I dove into my connection with Spirit, the better I felt. My weekly podcast helps with this as I talk to fantastic guests who ALWAYS have a message that I’m meant to hear.

I followed the call of Spirit when I attended a 2-day spiritual retreat with John of God, a Brazilian medium, at Omega Institute. It was deeply healing. What was super-cool is that I planned to go with one of my clients. We did a VIP Day together here in the Berkshires, then we both enjoyed our time at John of God.

Speaking of listening to Spirit, I’m doing this big-time in January when I lead a 5-night retreat in Costa Rica for my GLOW Mastermind clients.

Here’s the story …

Earlier this year, I received a divine download in a yoga class.

The message I heard >> “Jenny, it’s time to lead a retreat in Costa Rica.”

You should know that I’ve never been to Costa Rica before.

And yet, I knew the message was meant for me.

And so I committed.

Found the epic venue.

Signed the contract.

Rallied the troops to join me.

Filled my GLOW mastermind with the most exquisite traveling companions.

You should know something about me.

When I get a clear signal, I act on it. This is how I’ve grown my business since the beginning. That’s how I’m still standing when most small businesses don’t survive past the 5-year mark.

“I am not a woman. I am not a man. I am not a person. I am not myself. I am a teacher.”

I LOVE to teach. LOVE IT.

I actually entered college wanting to be a high school English teacher. Realized early on that wasn’t the exact right path for me, but I never lost my love of teaching.

That’s why I love my coaching school so much (heads-up enrollment for our January 2017 class closes on Monday, December 19!).

Because I get to teach lightworker leaders how to cash in on their calling with their gifts. It’s so much fun.

As a teacher and head of my business, an affirmation that has stretched me to make important and big decisions is the Kundalini teacher’s oath >>

“I am not a woman. I am not a man. I am not a person. I am not myself. I am a teacher.”

Strips away all of the “shoulds” and “guilt” and “Oh my, I don’t know if I can do what needs to be done here” bullshit and simply allows you to stand strong in your wise teacher energy to offer your student / client / tribe member the lesson you are meant to teach them.

And you’re both better for it.

Stop disqualifying yourself

I’ve let a lot of opportunities pass me by because I felt like I wasn’t “ready” or “good enough.”

The shitty script that many of us operate from is “you’re not good enough.” It’s brutal.

And while I’ve done A TON of work on myself to flip the script, the low-vibe message still gets the best of me at times.

But I’m proud that instead of disqualifying myself again for a prestigious award called The Stevie Awards for Women in Business, I WENT FOR IT (thanks to Elaine Wellman on my team not letting me ignore the opp!) and WON a Silver Stevie for COACH OF THE YEAR.

Proud 🙂

It has been a hard slog to get here, but worth every step.


Challenges are gifts in disguise

This final piece focuses on the curveball my family was hit with in October. In a nutshell, my 2nd grade son Sean stopped going to school.

(This was also the exact time that we were in the midst of our Get Gutsy Coach Training School launch. Plus I have 2 other children to raise! One something happens to one, it tends to throw off the entire group – yikes.)

Something happened at his school one day that totally freaked him out.

And he was unable to return to the classroom (despite many, many attempts).

After 2 months of talking to and working with experts, healers, guides … and even visiting different schools … my husband and I came to the realization that the best thing for Sean at this time is to homeschool him for the rest of the school year and then see where we go from there.


It’s the right move for Sean, and for our family, right now.

I was totally freaked out at first (how will I ever pull this off?) but I am now totally at peace and so excited.

So is my boy!

My husband and I are sharing the teaching and working around our work schedules. His schedule is flex like mine and we are seeing this as one giant gift.

We have several friends who homeschool and I’ve been consulting with those who have been walking this path.

I’ve redesigned my schedule for 2017 and am ready to give my son what he needs to be all he can be.


I am a mother, hear me roar.

I know I’m going to be so much more focused and efficient next year in my business – I’ll have to be!

High-value projects only.

Uber-committed clients and students only.

Best results from smartest amount of effort.

I’ll be batching my content creation (podcasts, videos and blog posts) to ensure my creativity is unleashed in a way that is sustainable and intelligent.

No more leaking energy! No more wasting resources.

2017 is already unfolding in magical ways and I am continuing to surrender and trust.

Been a long road to get here. I feel good + free.

Truth time …

I’ve sacrificed A LOT to build my business.

There’s been pressure on my shoulders to grow, grow, grow (my own doing).

This curveball we were thrown was a gorgeous (and painful) reminder to slow the eff down and enjoy my children.

Truly be with them.

Not rush to get shit done all the time.

Enjoy the mess.

Grow amidst the chaos … and do it at my own pace (knowing I can slow or quicken my pace at any time).

Our 2 new tortoises Goldilocks and Checkers are reminding me of the idea … “slow and steady wins the race.”


They combine well with our 2 cats Cricket and Michael who have mastered the art of relaxing (admittedly, a struggle for me!).

In 2017, I’m embracing slow, steady, relaxing EXPANSION that nourishes me and my family.

I was reminded of the fragility of life a few weeks ago when my friend Shannon died of cancer.

She has the same number of kids as me – 3 – all in the same pattern …

2 boys close in age … then #3 is our girl.

This quote carried me through the days after her death …

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.” – Steve Jobs


What I know is this: you are here for a reason.

You are here to touch people’s lives.

You are here to expand.

You are here.

Do something that matters.

Do not wait another day.

The Making of a Coach [Part 5]

** This is a continuation of a multi-part series on how I’ve built my coaching business. **

2014 + 2015 – my 7th + 8th years in business as a coach – were simply SPECTACULAR. I gave birth, grew as a mother, rebirthed offerings, launched my book and hit the mainstream media scene.

Here’s a snapshot of my celebrations and lessons learned. May these help YOU get clear on what’s possible for YOU in your business, especially if you’re ready to rock it as a COACH.

You ready?


1. Birthed my beautiful baby GIRL Kate Julie Fenig via VBAC (vaginal birth after Cesearan) on April 16, 2014.

Her soul was talking to me prior to conceiving her. I am SO grateful my husband and I made space for her. She completes our family in the most ultimate, ultimate way.

I labored with her in the backseat of my car on the 1-hour ride to the hospital. As I listened to tribal music by the KDZ Drummers on our car stereo, I felt like a primal earth mother and lioness all at the same time. I squeezed my husband Steven’s hand so tight during contractions. I almost broke his hand!

When we arrived at the hospital, I was fully dilated and it was time to welcome my angel into the world. I listened to my body the entire time, did what I felt called to do, birthed her on all fours as my team surrounded me with love and encouragement and felt my baby just glide out of me. When someone on my birth team whispered in my ear, “it’s a girl,” I balled! Tears of joy as I held my DAUGHTER for the very first time.

Listening to my boys Sean and Luke say her full name brings a massive smile to my face. My late sister’s name is Julie Ann Amon. I always knew if I had a girl, her middle name would be Julie. Three kiddos in and I was able to honor my sister this way. THANK YOU, GOD!


2. I finished and published my first book “Get Gutsy: A Sacred, Fearless Guide to Finding Your Soul’s Calling and Living Your Dream” and am EXTENDING the “Get Gutsy” message in our brand new Get Gutsy Coach Training School.

Seriously the longest project I’ve worked on in the history of any project I’ve ever worked on.

Also the most fulfilling … and the hardest.

I call it “memoir mixed with medicine.” It’s a dream come true!

My book launched on Amazon.com on January 9, 2015 through our RAD launch party festivities and prizes. It shot up to #1 in 2 categories on Amazon on the first day of its launch and is STILL holding strong at bestseller status close to 3 months after launch.

The notes we get from readers blow me away. I am SO grateful I birthed this book and look forward to writing and publishing many more books.

box of booksNow that the book is launched, I got the FLASH of insight extend the SPIRIT of “Get Gutsy” and train new and aspiring coaches to be successful sharing their gifts with the world.

Hence, the creation of GET GUTSY COACH TRAINING SCHOOL! I’m thrilled to bring this much-needed offering to my tribe!


3. I hosted ALCHEMY Live 2 years in a row.

This was a brand new event for me in 2014, having completed the work I had done with the Retreat for Goddesses the 3 years prior. It just felt so right from the moment I birthed the concept. It was a real RE-birth for this event. A repositioning in the market. A repositioning in my soul.

I hosted ALCHEMY Live here in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, which is the spot I call “HOME.” It was the largest event in the history of my business. In a word it was: MAGICAL.

One of the coolest memories was when my family came to the event to check things out. Highlights: My boys on stage singing in the microphone during a break, nursing my daughter in a fancy chair in the lobby, interviewing my husband on stage, and my father-in-law maybe finally understanding what the heck I do!

GBC Unite4. Graduated an amazing group of students in the Business Adventure School … and welcomed in a new class of superstars.

Leading masterminds is so, so powerful.


5. Upleveled my biz: Visibility, media, trademarks and insurance

I scored some pretty big wins when it came to speaking opps. Jonathan Fields invited me to speak at Camp GLP (blast!). I spoke on/contributed to about 70 telesummits, podcasts, gift giveaways in 2014 and 2015.

I was interviewed for Ali Brown’s awesome podcast Glambition Radio! My podcast interview on tapping into your inner writer is helping to launch the brand new amazing Authorpreneur Spotlight Podcast. And I was interviewed for John Lee Dumas’s Entrepreneur on Fire podcast. Sweet!

A huge win was getting invited to be a contributor for NBC’s TODAY Parenting Team.

Love doing this message-spreading stuff! Totally FUN and ENERGIZING.

Ritual at Camp GLPBoring yet important details I dealt with was trademarking 2 of my program names (1 was approved; 1 was denied) and investing in liability and workers comp insurance. Snore-worthy initiatives to be honest, but I made the investments for the sake of my beautiful business.

The bigger you grow, the more you’ll have to make these investments too. And that’s worth celebrating, don’t you think?!


1. Never say never.

2 examples here. I said I’d never drive a minivan. With 3 kids, I am a MINIVAN DRIVING MAMA and SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS. What the heck was I trying to avoid? Convenience, ease? I love my Honda Odyssey and hereby say THANK YOU to all who told me I would love driving a minivan. You were RIGHT. (And I still love driving my Audi Q5 when I’m solo or with just 1 or 2 kids.)

carI also thought I always had “early” babies. Sean was 2.5 weeks early. Luke was 1 week early. Kate was 3 days late. Boom.

2. Money can’t be the biggest motivator in business.

Money is awesome. Money is important. But money can’t be the reason I get out of bed. It can’t rule me or else I start feeling really shitty and out of alignment. Your mission must be your motivator. The money flows once you match your offerings with a market who values what you’re selling. Be an expert problem solver. Do it with love. The money comes.

When it comes to money, PRICE TO PROFIT. Don’t run your biz into the ground by being obsessed about revenues, but not looking at expenses. YOU MUST PROFIT to stay in business for the long haul.


Beware of Bright Shiny Object Syndrome. Focus in on doing a few things REALLY, REALLY well. Put all of your energy there. Say no to the rest. Release all that stands in your way of focusing on what matters most as you share your message with your tribe.

4. More systems are needed!

The more my business has grown, the more systems need to be created or refined. The same is true for you! Anytime you find yourself doing something over and over again, you need a system! As CEO of your enterprise, you have GOT to be efficient with your time and energy. This is HARD. Sometimes you just want to fuck around on Facebook or do some trivial task because it’s EASY and that feels like candy to our BRAINS sometimes.

Gotta be a #BOSS though and develop systems so that you can free your mind of minutae that can be delegated, automated, systematized or deleted.

6. Stop comparing yourself to others. Blaze your own trail. Create your crew of inspiration.

When you compare, you despair. Sure, watching what others are doing can be inspiring … it can also be annoying and not helpful. Don’t spend all of your energy watching the highlight reels of your network on social media. Your best creative energy needs to be invested in YOUR creations. Don’t worry about what other people are doing. Don’t worry about mean-spirited critics.

Run your own race. Share your work with the world. Unsubscribe and unfollow anyone who makes you feel like shit, derails you from your path, or just isn’t being helpful right now. It’s okay. You’re allowed.

To that end, you DO want supporters in your life who can hold you up on the journey … and vice versa.

I adore my clients and customers and tribe (you!).

And my heart shines with fullness that I get to be a WIFE and a MOTHER to my husband and children. They make the journey WORTH IT.
