I’m Finally Doing This! (A Peek Inside My Business)

Hi there!

So, I’m finally doing this. What am I doing? Getting the FOUNDATION of my business strengthened (I’m also doing this in my personal life – it’s fascinating how all the elements connect.)

In the business, this translates into cleaning up our lists and campaigns and overall database (there was some majorly outdated stuff in there – digital clutter).

I’ll be honest with you – this stuff doesn’t come naturally to me. I’m a CREATOR / VISIONARY. I’d rather the “less creative” business elements take care of themselves. But that simply doesn’t happen without a plan and a team.

Selling is Serving

Enter: a new team and a new plan

Earlier this year a new Virtual Assistant joined my team, and along with her I got access to an Infusionsoft Certified Consultant (essentially an expert in the customer relationship management tool we use in our business) to help us with the backend elements of the business.

We’ve been diving deep together! Tightening up operations. Making moves I’ve wanted to make for YEARS (but haven’t gotten around to).

And something I’m really excited about is our new WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY EMAIL.

This is part of what’s called a NURTURE SEQUENCE. New subscribers to my email list will receive this email when they opt-in for something. I want to NURTURE the relationship with my people so you stick around and learn from me. This work means so much to me. You mean so much to me.

I want to share the email with you today for 2 reasons.

  1. To help us connect more deeply
  2. To give you an idea of what YOU can do in your business

Before I share it with you, heads-up that I’m opening up tickets for a SOUL OF SERVICE online event on September 14 I’m hosting featuring the one-and-only Danielle LaPorte. Yes, I said DANIELLE LAPORTE. You’ll want to come. And I’m going to make it really easy for you to say YES.

Danielle LaPorte

So keep your eyes peeled because early-bird tickets go on sale THIS week. We are diving into critical topics like:

  • Conscious Optimism: we’re all asking, “What can I do in my own way to help a hurting world?”
  • Using your voice, your money, your Soul to bring on the light

We are living in very CHARGED times. We are seeing so much injustice and inequality and bullshit (like what happened in Charlottesville over the weekend). And what are we to do?

Speak up more. Listen more. Love deeply. Look inward. Know that what’s happening is leading us to where we need to go (this is painful, yet necessary).

You’ll be hearing me talking about this more than ever … and certainly the event with Danielle LaPorte will bring this to an entirely new level.

Okay … back to my brand-new NURTURE email. Enjoy + thanks for being here.

I believe in what you’re doing. I believe in who you are.

Subject: welcome to the community

It’s Jenny here, sending you this note to welcome you to our community.

I’ve been cultivating this tribe since 2009. I’ll never forget sending my first email newsletter to my 100-person list in July of 2009. I was so excited – and a tad scared to push that “send” button too.

Since then, our community has grown to more than 10,000 gutsy leaders of wisdom. These women (and a few good men!) are the most amazing souls in the universe.

And although our tribe numbers in the thousands, every person here matters. So thanks from the bottom of my heart for being here.

I want you to know my business is not about volume. It’s about depth and clarity of mission.

If you are a spirit-led coach, creative, consultant or healer, this is the sacred spot for you.

At our core, we are a community of spiritual teachers and messengers changing the world through our mission-driven businesses. Our businesses are powered by a potent combination of our personalities, our faith, and the magic of technology which connects us to our people all over the planet.

There truly is no limit to how far you can go and who you can help no matter if you’re doing business at your kitchen table or your swanky office.

Take me for example …

I started my coaching business in my spare bedroom of my New York City high-rise apartment in 2008. Once my beautiful son Sean was born the next year, my office became my baby’s room. I had to move my startup operation to the master bedroom I shared with my husband Steven. So I bought an armoire desk and stuck it in the corner of the bedroom (where it barely fit!). I’d do my coaching calls and writing from this desk and then close it up when I was done for the day. It wasn’t an ideal setup, but it worked.

As I was growing deeper roots into motherhood, entrepreneurship and coaching, I knew my growth would be stifled in this space … so we made the decision to move out of the city.

As soon as we made the decision, I got pregnant with my son Luke. I was thrilled! I wanted to have my first 2 children close in age (they are 27 months apart) – mission accomplished.

After 11 years living in NYC — I started my corporate career there before realizing my gifts are better suited to all I’m doing and being now — Steven, Sean, baby in my belly, and I moved to the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts.

This gem of a spot was where Steven and I got married in 2005 and the spot we had been coming for years since my in-laws owned a vacation home there.

Every time I was in the Berkshires, my soul felt like it was home. It’s not the city. It’s not the suburbs. I call it the “cultured country.” I adore it.

I’m a Southern girl at my roots – raised in Florida and Georgia – but the Northeast has done wonders for me and has given me wings.

As I hunkered down in my new home, I started seeing visions of bringing women to the area for transformational retreats to complement the private and group coaching work I was doing with clients. I couldn’t get this vision out of my head, which is when I know it’s meant to be brought to life.

I’ve now led more than 10 retreats in powerful spots in Massachusetts, New York, Florida, Costa Rica, and Mexico … with more on the way.

Selling is Serving

I’ve launched and led programs, courses, and masterminds. I’ve written a book called Get Gutsy that took me 4 years from idea to finished product. And I publish a weekly podcast of the same name where we feature conversations with gutsy leaders of wisdom (mostly coaches and spirit-led entrepreneurs).

What I want you to know: I’ve been able to do this while being a wife and mother to my 3 children – yes, I had another child a few years ago. I got my girl! Her name is Kate and she is such a little powerhouse. She loves all things sparkly.

falls family

We don’t have family the area so Steven and I work together to nurture our family while I grow this business that means so much to me … and Steven does his work as a sports television producer. We “tag team” often and are also super grateful to our kids’ babysitter who helps us out a few days a week.

My latest role? Homeschooling mama! Yes, I’m so grateful to have designed the business intentionally so that when it became clear that homeschooling our sons was the best approach for them right now, we could do it. And we could send our daughter Kate to a fantastic school with a magical early childhood program that’s ideal for her.

Why do I share this with you? I want you to see that I’m a regular person just like you. I have decisions to make, children to raise, a partner to love, bills to pay, clients to help, a body to care for, and a soul to nourish.

I’ve also been consistent and disciplined in growing my business since 2008. This isn’t a hobby. This is a calling.

My journey from Square 1 to a multiple-six-figure business has been filled with twists, turns and many late nights.

I’ve launched more programs than I can count and have the battle scars to prove it – ha! I’ve learned what works, what doesn’t … and what’s truly worth my time.

While my journey is different than yours, one of my superpowers is guiding you – through a mix of spirit and strategy – to go inward to find your own answers to what’s worth your time. Because time is the greatest gift in the world – even greater than money. Time is linked to choice and freedom.

Ask any person who is dying (yes, we’re going there) … most would tell you they wish they had more time for the things that truly matter.

I learned this lesson from my 12-year-old sister Julie when she died of brain cancer when I was 16. Living free is the greatest gift.

How can you live free? By cashing in on your calling.

You have a call that has been placed on your soul, a grand assignment, a mission to fulfill. When you connect your calling to a hungry tribe eager to learn from you and be helped by you … wow. You’ve hit the bullseye. That’s where I come in.

Each week, I publish my podcast Get Gutsy. We feature guests – coaches, creatives + spirit-led entrepreneurs – with powerful stories + tips to help you move your mission forward.

If you don’t yet subscribe, now’s the time! You can find the show on Apple Music, Stitcher or Google Play. You can also find all of our episodes here.

(Our most popular episode is called India, Sobriety and Turning 40. You can find it here.)

I send emails to my list every week. In these emails I might talk about our latest episode and other powerful offerings you may dig. I share blog posts and my thoughts.

I ask provocative questions and ask for your response. I want to hear what’s up for you. This is a 2-way communication channel.

You should know that I think about my community A LOT. I see you all in my visualizations. I hear your voices about what you dream about. And what your biggest challenges are.

So I’m telling you now you’ll be hearing from me. I used to worry about some people not liking if I emailed them too much or not on a “every Tuesday” schedule. I used to worry about unsubscribes. I don’t anymore.

If you want to be here, you’ll stay. And if you don’t want to receive emails from me, you can unsubscribe at anytime (the link is at the bottom of every email I send). I love having you here, but only if you want to be here of course!

I’m often brewing up other powerful offerings (a mix of paid and free) as I vibe on what my market needs. You’ll be the first to know.

You can find lots of support on my blog.

I’m also active on Facebook and Instagram so hook up with me there.

Important moments on my journey …

  • I went to Space Camp the summer before 7th grade. It was amazing. No, I didn’t accidentally go to space during our mock mission (did you see the movie SPACE CAMP too?!), but I did campaign to be named commander of the mission (and got picked). This instilled a deep discipline to have a responsibility to my mission.
  • My sister’s death has shaped me the most. I write about this extensively in my book Get Gutsy and talk about what I learned on my interview on The Unmistakable Creative podcast. I feel Julie every day. I hear her and I see her in various signs that show up in my life. Julie teaches me the true meaning of faith.
  • When I was 22 years old, I drove a UHaul from Florida to New York City (did most of the journey solo) to start my public relations career in New York City. I had a couch to stay on at a friend’s apartment as I started my $28,000 / year job.
  • I honed my business chops working at fast-paced companies in New York City from 1999 to 2007. I came close to burnout a lot, but credit these experiences with teaching me how to be nimble and courageous. Plus, I worked with A LOT of smart people. And I became a seasoned businesswoman. I worked with some of the biggest brands in the world (Kellogg cereals, M&Ms candies, Hershey chocolate, and Pfizer’s Viagra) during my PR agency days. And had some of the biggest leaders + visionaries of our time (Tony Robbins, Malcolm Gladwell, Colin Powell, Philippe Starck, Ken Blanchard) to speaking on my stage as a conference producer.
  • The lobby of my apartment building on the Upper West Side of NYC is where I met the man who would become my husband. We both lived in the building, but I had never seen him until that moment. I knew immediately he was special. Steven and I have been married since 2005!
  • Yoga saved my life! It teaches me to let go and let God. I went through a 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2007 that inspired me to quit my last corporate job and walk a new path.
  • Training to become a yoga teacher led me to discover the field of coaching. I trained to become a coach in 2008 and haven’t looked back.
  • I sold my wedding dress to buy the ticket to my first female entrepreneur conference. The story of who bought it (and how she essentially manifested her dream dress) will blow you away.
  • Pregnancy and birth are some of my favorite things in the whole wide world. I LOVED being pregnant and I LOVED giving birth. Showed me what I was made of … and gave me the greatest gifts >> my children! I had a natural birth with Sean. Wanted a homebirth with Luke, but got a C-section instead (breech baby!). And had a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) with Kate.
  • After drinking A LOT during my teens and 20s, I let go of alcohol in May of 2015. Best move. I wrote and podcasted about my decision here.
  • I won a 2016 Silver Stevie Award for Coach of the Year. There was a big bash in New York City where winners from around the world were honored. It was a powerful feeling to have my work as a coach recognized.
  • Seeing the world is a HUGE value. Travel is good for the soul. Not only have I traveled extensively in the United States, but I’ve been to MANY other countries including Canada, Mexico, India, England, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, China, Japan, Spain, France, Greece, Sweden, Brazil, Denmark, Russia, Croatia, Estonia, Turkey, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Bermuda (and I’m probably forgetting some). Now I lead retreats in exotic destinations and LOVE this element of where my business has taken me.
  • Voy con Dios. I saw this phrase on a bumper sticker while leading a retreat in Tulum, Mexico. It means Go with God. I feel it in my bones. I have developed a beautiful relationship with my Higher Power. It has been an evolution and I’m so grateful knowing that I don’t walk alone.

Here’s some feedback from some of my clients so you an get a feel for what others say about me who have worked with me closely.

“Working with Jenny has been an enlightening adventure. She is knowledgeable, supportive, organized, fun and caring. She provides the right amount of support and wisdom to help you realize what your true calling is and then helps you map out the journey to get there successfully. Jenny leads from a place of integrity and trust. I am confident when I say working with her has pushed my business dreams to a whole new level.” – Kimberly Ferrara, Founder of Kim Ferrara’s Inclusive Fitness Coaching, BeHumanU.com

“Working with Jenny has been key to my personal growth over the last few years. I have been able to manifest so many of my dreams, both personally and professionally. I could not ask for a more caring and smart coach on my life journey.” – Tracy Imm, Coach + Strategist, TracyImm.com

Working with Jenny has been uplifting, open and supportive. She allowed space to grieve and heal. Jenny created environments of inspiration and guidance. Her openness to allowing what is and what will be has made me believe in myself and my journey. For this, I am so very grateful.” – Lori Paul, PowerUp2Health.com

I consider all who join this community GUTSY LEADERS OF WISDOM.

I See Things Before They Happen

It took me many, many years to understand my powers of SEEING.

I have a gift for seeing events in the future before they happen.

When I was younger, this ability freaked me out. I used to push it away. Doubt it. Darken it.

Until I surrendered … and embraced this ability for the betterment of my people and myself.

I can SEE the power and potential of a venue, an experience, a program before it actually occurs. Then I create something TANGIBLE out of THIN AIR.

With the SEEING, comes the FEELING.

The visual opens me up to the TRANSFORMATIONAL EXPERIENCE that will be had.

I’ve harnessed this power to lead more than a dozen retreats through the years(this email contains some OMG shots from my most recent retreat in TULUM – saw these images before they actually happened) … oodles of programs … and more creative projects than I can count.

I trust my hunches … because I know they are taking me to where I’m meant to serve at my highest level.

I’m being called into greater levels of service and expansion … and it feels absolutely amazing (and at times, terrifying too!).

One thing you’ve gotta deal with on this quest > REJECTION.

You’re going to be told NO more times than you’ll be told YES. Ain’t no shame in that, love! REVEL IN THE NO. Because you’re that much closer to an ALIGNED YES.

Easier said than done?

I feel you.

Today on my FB page Jenny Fenig, I gave a talk on DEALING WITH REJECTION.

It was powerful. Thanks to everyone who came!

Here’s a link to the video.

Excited to see your comments when you watch!

PS – Full moon energy tonight. Very, very powerful time.

PPS – Save the date >> I’m doing another FB Live this Wednesday, August 9 at 12:30 p.m. EST (9:30 a.m. PST) on …

My intention is to help you create more GROWTH in your spirit-led business. Something you’ve gotta know >> the more shots you take, the more you’ll make (and the more you’ll miss).

“Like” my FB page to stay in the loop when I broadcast live.

Want to Sell Premium Programs?

I returned home to Massachusetts a few days ago, after having wrapped up an extraordinary 5-day GLOW mastermind retreat in Tulum, Mexico.

Being rocked to sleep and awakened each morning by the sounds of the waves in the Caribbean Sea was something I’ll never forget (neither will my clients).

Our resort was literally steps to the beach. We were essentially barefoot the whole time with sand between our toes!

It’s hard to describe exactly what we experienced here, but I’ll try because I want you to lead transformational + premium experiences for your people too …

There is a magic in Tulum, a pulse, a beat that lives inside your soul.

Forever grateful to the land, the people, the animals (sea turtles are laying their eggs now!), and my clients for making this dream real.

Walking the path of a spiritual entrepreneur is a wild, mystical adventure filled with twists and turns.

What I know to be true: you never walk alone.

As the leader, it’s my job to hold sacred space for my clients to make discoveries, make moves and shed layers they’ve outgrown. It’s my job to listen, guide and help them be all they were designed to be … in their work and in all other areas.

One of my superpowers is leading transformational (I don’t use this word lightly) retreats. No one does it like I do. No one. Of this I’m sure.

Designing the flow of my retreats is a sacred act. Retreats are meant to be spacious and expansive and deep.

There is power in this type of immersion. True transformation occurs when the leader is in alignment with the process and with her people.

picnic tables

(It’s funny >> in Mexico, I remembered that I’ve been leading leadership retreats since college as president of the Public Relations Student Society of America at the University of Florida. Want to know what you’re great at? Go back to your youth!)

Anyway, at the end of the retreat in Mexico, I asked my clients for testimonials about their experience (you need to always be asking your clients for testimonials too!).

It’s powerful to see your strengths reflected back to you …

My client Lori Gibson-Washington, The Calming Communications Coach, put into words what I feel in my soul …

“Jenny is a go-to retreat leader. Jenny is THE go-to retreat leader. I’ve attended many retreats, conferences and workshops through the years. Many have great content, but are so time precise that precious journaling and discussion time is cut short. Jenny leads her audience, feels the vibe, and runs the sessions accordingly. She is truly a master retreat leader.”

I feel that retreats are an essential ingredient in high-end program design. That’s why I tend to include them in my premium programs. I lead both online and in-person retreats. I love them all … though nothing comes close to in-person retreats in powerful destinations!

The Tulum retreat was part of a larger premium program that I lead called GLOW. (You can hop on the waitlist for our next group here.)

Do you want to lead high-end experiences for your soulmate clients? I hope that you do. Because there is nothing more fabulous and powerful (for the client and you).

I’ve been designing and selling premium programs for 8 years now.

The highest priced program I’ve sold (so far!) is $15,000. The most cash I’ve received in one month from my business is close to $40,000 (note: cash is different than sales generated/contracts booked). I’ve launched programs that have generated sales of 6-figures during the launch.

On the flip side, I’ve also sold $97 courses. Offered events and retreats for a few hundred dollars. (It’s an entirely different model to sell low-end offers.)

Having been around the block and back again, I now am celebrating the beauty of what I call GOING HIGH >> high-vibe, high-touch, high-end.

While I love being able to help people with my free or low-end offers, the people I can do the deepest work with are those who invest in my premium programs. I’ve seen it time and time again >> when you invest, you’re invested.

My best students and clients are those who invest at the highest levels. Because they are truly on the line for their growth and results.

It’s very easy to pay $297 for a course and never do anything with the material. You haven’t wasted THAT much money. But imagine what happens when you spend $2,997 or $29,997. (And imagine what happens when your clients invest at that level too.)

Do you think you’re going to not show up for the work that’s required to get a return on that investment? (Do you think your clients won’t show up or do the work?)

And that’s the whole point.

The investment in working with a coach is the investment in your growth. In your evolution. In you achieving your gutsy goals.

In you being a gutsy leader of wisdom.

PS – I want to help you to create and sell high-end offers to your soulmate clients! Ready?

I have a few spots available in my brand new small group coaching immersion. Imagine: working with me closely to build out your premium packages. It’s time to GO HIGH.

To apply for a spot, go here now. Application deadline = Friday, August 11.

Your application will go right to my inbox. I’m all about high-touch in my business 🙂

What Death Taught Me

Curiosity led me to the dictionary to see the official definition …

the act of dying; the end of life; the total and permanent cessation of all the vital functions of an organism.

These words feel so final.

So firm.

So “end of story.”

And yet for me, death is where the story truly begins anew.

Where one chapter certainly ends, but another one begins. This next chapter is typically filled with grief disguised as coping behaviors ranging from moderately healthy to downright destructive.

I know this to be very true.

“Jenny, why all the talk about death?” you may be asking.

I’ll tell you why … today is the 23rd anniversary of my sister Julie’s passing.

She was 12 years old when she died from brain cancer.

I was 16.

It was brutal.

Her short life and relatively short illness (around 13 months) changed my entire world and worldview.

While I couldn’t grasp the magnitude of what this meant at that moment in time, the last 23 years have brought with them plenty of time and space to wrestle with the questions … and to connect deeply with angelic and spiritual realms.

One thing I’ve learned about death is that anniversaries bring stuff to the surface.

When this happens to you, don’t be freaked out.

It’s normal.

Since Julie’s death on February 27, 1994, every February since has brought with it some very interesting energy.

It’s hard to exactly describe the vibe of February, but I’ll simply say: it teaches me something every time.

Memories from her final days come flooding back.

Julie towards the end

I have vivid dreams.

I tend to want to sleep more.

I’m more emotional and prone to “all or nothing” feelings.

I book a trip or a training or buy something big that we need (or all of the above).

I make decisions.

I make moves.

I see the bigger picture.

My vision becomes more clear.

I’m grateful that her death doesn’t trigger me anymore. I’m grateful that I’ve released the guilt and the shame and anger.

I carried that stuff for 2 decades until I just couldn’t take it anymore.

I had to let go.

For my sanity.

And my family.

And my future.

EMDR work with my therapist helped immensely.

So did baring my soul in my book and writing a very detailed memoir-style account about my sister’s last day in her body (straight up, Chapter 3 wrecked me when I wrote it).

What I now know to be true when it comes to pain, especially related to death and grief …

You’ve got to feel it to heal it.

Babe, do NOT be afraid to feel things. Good things. Hard things. Amazing things. Shitty things. Confusing things.

Feeling your feelings is a gift.

Feeling your feelings can also be fucking terrifying!

Much of the world is absolutely freaked out by their feelings. So they numb out with alcohol or drugs or work or the internet or TV or sex or shopping or food or non-stop noise.

The goal: Comfortably numb.

But numb isn’t comfortable.

Numb is a cop out.

Numb is an escape.

What I’ve learned: You can’t bypass grief.

It will come and get you because it has something to teach you.

Trust the waves of grief, and grief will transform you.

The grief will move through you and crack you open in ways that let the let shine through.

Do not be afraid.

This is what happened to me.

I ran, ran, ran, ran so damn hard for so many years from the grief and shame and anger about Julie.

I managed to finish high school and go away to college although I really wanted to stay home and go to our community college. I wanted to continue being the big fish in the small pond but my mom wouldn’t let me. I’ll always be grateful to her for that. I could have gotten really stuck if I would have stayed.

I numbed out in college and still managed to graduate summa cum laude and land my dream job in New York City.

I partied my ass off in my 20s while working my ass off only to realize that I was working in the wrong career and had to start over again.

How did I know?

Because I stopped and got quiet.

It was when I got quiet and asked myself what I was doing that I got the answer … from none other than my sister Julie.

She had been guiding me all along but I often would forget. I’d lose her. I’d lose the connection to her amidst the noise and the running and the climbing the ladder.

I’d forget why I was here … because I was too consumed by the fact that she wasn’t.

Until I remembered that she was still here. She is still here. She’s here.

She’s always been here.

The more I’ve embraced this, the more my life expands beyond my wildest dreams.

My business evolves and shape shifts and attracts in the most amazing people I get to teach and coach and serve.

And Julie’s with me every step of the way.

She gives me names of programs. (Julie literally whispered the name of my mastermind GLOW when I was in the midst of launching it a few years ago.)

She comes with me on my retreats all over the world.

Helps me deal with the stuff I don’t want to deal with.

She stays in the room with me.

She believes in me, still.

She was always my biggest fan. Still is.

It is Julie, as well as the spirits of my best friend Sonda Deskins and her brother Mark Deskins, that allow me to walk in faith.

I was dealt 3 deaths in 3 years – at 16, 17 and 19 years old. You better believe these deaths have shaped me.

Humbled me.

Haunted me.

Humored me.

Given me perspective that most don’t have.

They all died young.

None of us were ready.

And yet here we are.

These brave souls are my Spirit Guides.

The ones who remind me to live well. And to be ALIVE while I am in fact alive.

“Some people die at 25 and aren’t buried until 75.” – Benjamin Franklin

To honor the call of my soul.

To be a non-conformist.

To zig when others zag.

To go on awesome vacations with my family.

To go to India for my 40th birthday.

To bring something to the surface now that I wasn’t planning on … but am surrendering into anyway.

To care deeply.

And to not care at all.

To surrender … and surrender some more.

To embrace that done is better than perfect. (Come to my free training on this very topic!)

And to care about the opinions of a very, very small number of people.

“Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.” – Norman Cousins
And to scare myself, regularly.
Push myself to the limit to see what I’m made of.
And to surround myself with others who embrace this energy too.
Because I don’t have time for bullshit or excuses or reasons why something won’t work.
I’m not interested in hanging out with flakes or fakers or quitters or people unwilling to deal with their shit.
“Courage is being scared to death… and saddling up anyway.” – John Wayne

Because death has taught me that it comes without asking permission. It comes without fairness. It comes slowly and swiftly and quickly and messily and perfectly and tragically.

It comes.
Leaving a lot of unfinished business in its wake.
The ultimate mystery we are all living with is WHEN WILL WE DIE?
The question I encourage you to ask yourself >> what will you do between now and the time of your death?
What do you want to see?
What do you want to create?
What changes will you make?
How will you love?
Who will you love?
Where will you go?
What will you do?
Who will you be?
When will you stop waiting?

My work is dedicated to helping you live truthfully … so that when you die, you will die happy. And you will die free.

And the world will rejoice that you were alive … and you mattered because you helped others feel that they mattered too.

This is it.
This is what it’s all about.
Life, death and what comes between.
This is Jenny Fenig sending you so much love, light + faith as you Get Gutsy. I’ll see you next time.

So something I’m really excited about in 2017 is writing more. Straight up writing.

I got away from my true, true love a bit last year and my soul suffered. My business grew, but I’m not just in this for the money.

I’m in this for the joy it brings me.

Because when I feel joy, I trust that my joy is making its way around the world and touching you in your corner of the world too.

So I’ve redesigned the way I’m communicating with you and serving you … and making writing – real, raw … not just “promo” copy, but rather, straight-up truth talk – a regular part of my marketing and connection plan.

And when things are wild and crazy, I am even MORE grateful to be a writer.

(Freaking out right now? WRITE IT OUT. Pen to paper. Write.)

Ya’ll, the world feels like it’s turning upside down right now. Is it just me or do you feel it too?

It’s like I’m on those crazy roller coaster where you hang upside down for what seems like forever while your stomach churns. Then you free fall …

Look, I know I may lose fans and customers as a result of me speaking about politics and world affairs, but so be it. I’ve lived with that fear in the past and “played it safe” with my messaging because I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.

“Being the good girl” is still something I grapple with.

Of course I don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings by speaking up, but I also must be able to look at myself in the mirror when it’s all said and done and use my platform for good.

As leaders, we have a responsibility to use our voice to take a stand and make true change in the world.

One of the hallmarks I stand behind is to TAKE A STRONG POSITION.

Don’t be wishy washy.

What does this mean?

And why does this matter so much right now?

Even if this means you will lose some business (trust me, you’ll get better opportunities when you’re true to yourself!).

I get why you may feel scared to take a position when we’re trying so hard to not offend anyone.

Women have been conditioned for generations to not step on any toes less we get labeled “bitchy,” “rude,” “bossy,” “opinionated” or “political.”

I’ve seen many women online say that it’s unacceptable to talk about politics, religion or money in public.

Um … what’s that all about?

Your lack of conviction to take a position about what you really feel on social media, in your blog posts, during meetings or conversations means that you don’t add much to the conversation. Your contributions (or lack thereof) are easily forgotten.

While you may be easy on the eyes, you were meant to be so much more than that.

Your unwillingness to stand up for what you believe means you get lost in a sea of sameness.

This also happens when you don’t specifically identify WHO YOU WORK WITH and WHAT SPECIFIC PROBLEM YOU SOLVE.

Your desire to help “everyone” with “everything” means your marketing falls in the giant abyss of nothingness.

You’re casting your net way too wide.

You’re, essentially, wasting your time … and your potential.

Leaking energy.

Trying to please everyone and killing yourself and your business in the process.

You must take a position.

Have a point of view.

Defend that point of view and yet listen to other points of view without a need to prove that you’re “right” and they are “wrong.”

Aim to understand a little bit more today than you did yesterday.

And yet still stand strong for what you believe.

Keep your eyes open.

Point out injustices.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Know that it’s okay to “lose” people along the way.

You can’t help everyone. You can’t change everyone’s minds (especially on the internet!).

You won’t be liked by everyone.

Nor should you try.

You must be clear on who you help and why.

For me, I help spiritually-connected coaches, healers and creatives to grow their businesses without burning out.

We do this through getting crystal clear on your SOUL’S VISION and translating this into a series of aligned actions and intelligent packages and offers that attract your dream clients.

99% of my clients are women.

And we also help a small yet mighty crew of men who are open to being around a bunch of strong, smart, outspoken women.

Keeping us separate doesn’t seem to make much sense anymore. The separateness is causing a lot of trouble in the world now. And what we don’t need more of is SEPARATE.

ACTION STEP >> WHO DO YOU HELP? And what problem do you help them solve?

What Do You Believe?

In the noisy world we live in, it’s easy to lose connection with your own truth. We start picking up on OPO (Other People’s Opinions) and don’t know how WE truly feel about an issue.

Beware of this.

You always, always, always want to be clear on what YOU believe … even if what you believe is different than important people in your life … or the “majority.”

As for me, I believe that the vast majority of the people in the world are good.

I believe in humanity.

I believe in family.

I believe we are all God’s children.

I believe that love is love is love.

I believe in yoga, meditation, angels, spirit guides, crystals, essential oils, candles, palo santo and sage.

I believe in America.

I believe in the world.

I believe in doing unto others as you’d have them do unto you.

I believe in healing your wounds and not putting your “stuff” on someone else to deal with.

I believe that when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

I believe that I can learn a lot about leadership by watching what many in public positions of power do … and then doing the opposite.

I believe we are alive to use our voices and gifts to affect positive change in the world (starting with ourselves).

I believe that empowering my tribe to harness their spiritual gifts to achieve financial freedom is the best gift I can offer the world.

I believe in investing in what you value (contributions/investments lately include quality journalism with the New York Times; civil liberties with the American Civil Liberties Union; and global entrepreneurship and microloans with Kiva).

I believe that history has a way of repeating itself if you aren’t careful. (My Jewish mother-in-law was forced to flee Nazi Germany as a young child … she has taught me so much about staying vigilant and using your voice as she writes Letters to the Editor to the New York Times often. She’s been published more than 20 times.)

I believe that power can be misused when in the hands of mentally unfit people.

I believe in deeply and completely loving and accepting myself.

I believe in you.

I believe this isn’t “business as usual.” This is anything but usual. We must address the elephant in the room … and get to the root.

I believe that no matter what horrible things are happening in the world, there are always helpers making things better.

I believe in your right to disagree with me, agree with me or not care about what I have to say.

I believe that we can have different beliefs and still be kind to each other … and still learn from each other.

I believe in the leaders in my industry who speak out about their beliefs and inspire me to be courageous enough to speak out about mine.

Shoutout to some of them below. Deep bow.

Where do we go from here?

Honestly I’m not sure.

It feels like uncharted territory yet it also feels like we’ve navigated super choppy waters together before.

For many of you, it’s calling your lawmakers.

Unfriending. Unfollowing. Unsubscribing.

Doubling down.

Hugging your family extra tight.

Not worrying at all.

Do what feels right.

Do right by your conscious. And your moral compass.

Don’t let anyone silence you.

Live awake. Live with your eyes wide open.

Stand UP for what you believe in … in all areas of your life, business and the world. And keep fighting the good fight.

Would love to hear your comments below how you’re taking a stand.

Remember: we are ALL In this together.

Be kind. And strong.

Signature xoxo Jenny
