I received an email with the subject line:
“Young, Wandering, and Finding Direction”
It caught my attention.
The 25-year-old sender heard my interview on Entrepreneur on Fire and appreciated my story and message.
She went on to share more about her life and interests and included this line that touched me:
“I’m really in a place of doubt and looking for guidance from women who are doing what I want to be doing.”
I get a lot of requests for meetings and advice and help and I’m unable to say yes to all of them, but I said yes to this gal.
She actually lives a few towns away and we met up tonight after my Kundalini yoga class so I could share insights on my career journey and shine a light on her path.
I even brought her a copy of my book Get Gutsy.
Sometimes it’s nice to meet people face to face! And bring presents.
While the chatting it up on Facebook, Instagram and Periscope is fun, nothing takes the place of being IN THE SAME ROOM as someone, don’t you think?
I never want to see the day where we don’t know how to REALLY spend time with people FACE TO FACE.
That’s just sad to think about so let’s keep the IN PERSON CONNECTION alive and well, shall we?
So, back to tonight.
Why did I take time out of my full schedule to meet a PERFECT STRANGER who heard my message on a podcast and happened to live a few towns away?
1. Her ask was strong and compelling.
2. She reminded me of me in my 20s.
3. And most importantly, saying YES allowed me to LIVE MY WHY.
Before I tell you more about just what MY WHY is, I want to explain the concept of YOUR WHY.
Your why will save you.
Your why is why you’re here, why you’re showing up in the world, why you get out of bed, why you choose to go for another day, and go for another spin around the wheel of life.
For women especially, our why is immensely important. Knowing the backstory of what we do and who it impacts and why it impacts them and what kind of impact we are making in the world is essential.
Your why evolves as you evolve.
You have work to do in this world, and it’s up to you to determine what that work is and how you want to do that work in the world.

What do you BELIEVE to be true?
Tie your beliefs into your work and you’re golden.
And do business with people who believe what you believe. I learned this from the brilliant Simon Sinek.
People who believe what you believe = YOUR TRIBE.
My Why …
My mission is show my people how to take care of themselves, how to be of service, how to get gutsy and how to fulfill the call of their soul through their beautiful business.
The root of my why is empowerment for women and for girls.
My driving force is the death of my younger sister Julie when she was 12 and I was 16.
There are angels and guides among us and they want us to succeed. But it’s up to you to make a move. Do not overanalyze. Take inspired imperfect action.
My message is this:
“Be a leader. Be smart. Get out there. Do something significant. Do it. Don’t hold back. You are amazing. This is it.”
And that’s exactly what I told this “Young, Wandering and Looking for Direction” gal tonight at our meeting.
I answered her questions and gave her some solid counsel on how to build her dream.
Living your why is why you’re alive.
And starting with WHY in your business strategy and messaging is the way to growth.

His core message when it comes to business and sales is this:
Read that graphic again because it’s FREAKING SMART.
Those words should be JUMPING OFF THE SCREEN AT YOU NOW.
People don’t buy what you do they buy why you do it.
